Cannel coal is brown to black oil shale. It is derived from resins, spores, waxes, and cutinaceous and corky materials of terrestrial vascular plants. Cannel coal was accumulated in ponds and shallow lakes in peat-forming swamps and bogs of the Carboniferous age under oxygen-deficient conditions. Cannel coal typically contains much less fixed carbon than bituminous coal. This example was obtained from the Alexander open cast pit in Wigan, Lancashire. Supplied by weight only with size of pieces being random. These rocks come in a 1 kg polythene bag with a data label.
